I got offered updates from MS today for Win 7+SP1, 32-bit, including one that's related to upgrading to Win 10 (KB3123862)  - No Thanks!

Another on the list is KB3156417, but when I click the More Information link on the update page, the MS site says "This page doesn’t exist."

Not going to install it unless somebody explains that one to me.  Google didn't help...

Thanks!

MAC THUNDERBOLT DISPLAY TO OPTIPLEX 790

$

I've managed to stump the IT folks at my work and am hoping someone here has a solution. I currently work off of a OptiPlex 790 with a Dell display connected through the HDMI port. I'm trying to connect my 27'' Thunderbolt Display (MAC) as a second monitor. I first tried a DisplayPort to Thunderbolt chord (with a male DP end and a male thunderbolt end which connects to the Mac display), but my Dell isn't recognizing that another display is even connected. Has anyone ever tried to do this?--any solutions? Sorry to post a mac/dell hybrid question. Thanks for your help!

Connecting monitor to Optiplex 760

I've been given an Optiplex 760 with a manufacture date of 081409.  The VGA cable does not fit into the computers receptacle which has two rows of pins (male) with 4 pins on 1 row and 5 on the other, and of course the monitor has the regular 3 rows female.  Is there a cable which fits this configuration?

Optiplex 7040 Windows 7 system freeze

Purchased an Optiplex 7040 for a client in need of a POS system. Installed a video card, 2 x Samsung 500GB SSD's in RAID1, Windows 7 Pro and Dell drivers. The machine was returned to me a total of 3 times because of random freezes, no response from keyboard, mouse or power button. Passed all diagnostics.  Replaced the video card, memory and drives. Finally had Dell replace the motherboard yesterday. Clean install of Windows 7 on a single SSD, installed drivers and left it running all night (power settings changed to not allow sleep). System was frozen this morning. The PSU and CPU are to only two components not replaced. I'm going to try installing Windows 10 next.

The machine is long past the 30 return window. I've given the customer a new computer, now I'm stuck with a $1000 POS that isn't working right.

Thoughts or ideas?

Inspiron 3647 not working won't power on.

Hi all, I have a Inspiron 3647 and it recently shut off on my wife and she went to print a pay stub. I watched the Dell power supply trouble shooting video and followed the process disconnecting everything from power supply to mother board and can't find the fault. The only time the fan spins is when I hold down the black diagnosis button. I have unplugged everything that has a harness and even moved removed the RAM and replugged everything back in and still no solutions. What am I doing wrong? If you're going to ask me about a warranty, than no, the warranty was up last year. If someone from Dell could assist that would be great as I've been a long time Dell customer and have purchased many PC's, Laptops, software over over the past 9 years.

White screen on Optiplex 9010 AIO when cold booting

I've got a system that has recently started exhibiting the following symptoms:

In the morning, when the user powers on the system (it is usually turned off when the user leaves the day before), the system will go through the POST, start to load Windows, then display a solid white screen at the point the login/user selection screen should appear.  Connecting a 2nd monitor also shows the white screen there as well.  The only way we've been able to get past this is to hold in the power button to hard shut-down, then power it back on.  However, we need to do this multiple times before the white screen goes away.  Once it boots properly, we can reboot as many times as we want and the problem does not come back.  It's only when the system boots in the morning after being off all night?

OS is Windows 10 Pro, 32-bit

CPU is i3-2120 w/HD2000 integrated graphics

BIOS is A14

Called support, no answers other than to update chipset, video, and BIOS.  We updates chipset and video, but the BIOS update (A19) will not apply - it runs with no issues, system reboots, update does not apply and we boot back into Windows with A14 BIOS.  I'll probably post another help request for that...

But any suggestions on the white screen?

Cheers,

Brendan

Inspiron ONE 2320: Windows 7: Windows did not detect any networking hardware

Trying to access the internet via my router/WiFi but the message:

'Windows did not detect any networking hardware'

This appears and will only bring up DSL or Dial up alternatives.

I've tried to determine 'Motherboard' type/manufacturer by physical examination/viewing and can find no identifying label.

Unit is still (as of May 18, 2016) disconnected/back removed and ready for someone to help me identify anything that has to do with the above issue (? hardware reference).

Can anyone help?

Need a NEWER Driver for my Integrated Network Card

I have a Dell Precision Tower 5810 running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit.

My system has an Integrated Network Card (Intel Ethernet Connection 1217-LM)

The Driver for the Integrated Network Card is Version 12.12.80.19 but it is dated 9-29-2014

My System was built 9-17-2015 - so the Driver was already 1 Year old when the System was built.

Shouldn't there already be a more current Driver out there for my integrated Network Card?

Why Can't I Access the Intel Management Engine BIOS?

$

I have a Dell Precision Tower 5810 running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit.

My system has an Integrated Network Card (Intel Ethernet Connection 1217-LM)

You are supposed to be able to access the Intel Management Engine BIOS by pressing Ctrl-P when you see the screen that tells you to Press Ctrl-P to enter MEBx Setup - but that Screen never pops up when I reboot while taping the F12 key.

I have reason to believe that DHCP may be disabled in the Intel Management Engine BIOS & I need to enable it because my Fiber Optic ISP uses Dynamic IP Addresses instead of Static IP Addresses.

Inspiron 3050 Windows 10 1511 Update

The update won't install due to space... and it wanted 5 GB which I managed to do but now it says 9 or 10 GB it needs free.  There's nothing else to delete application wise to free up that much space.

I'm willing to wipe the machine clean and do a fresh install to start from this latest stable Windows 10 update.  I read all the forums here for space issues but I couldn't find instructions for doing a clean install... I download the Media Creation Tool to download an ISO to an attached SSD drive (which has plenty of space... and Windows Update initially asked if it could download to a different location and I pointed it to the SSD drive but it apparently still needs 9-10 GB of "local" drive space free to do the update.

Anyhow...  can you tell me what license keys I need to find and where and what process I can go through to download an installable version of the latest Windows 10 version and properly install it on this 3050?

I repeat... I've uninstalled every installable program that's not core to the OS and still can't free up enough space... Windows 10 Update won't use any of the free space on the USB attached SSD so that's not an option either.

Studio XPS 8100 Internet Connectivity Problem

Replaced my HDD and after re-installing Win 7 Pro 64 from DVD, I'm unable to connect to my Comcast Cable Modem via Cat 5 cabling - 2 different runs.  The one error I get is "Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter.  If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver."  As far as I can tell I do not have a network adapter nor can I find any such drivers for this computer.  Before the re-install of HDD and Win 7, the little icon in the bottom right tray was red-xed out, but I was still connecting to the internet.

Even tried starting in Safe Mode with Networking, still no connection.  The only thing loaded on the computer is the OS.

Thanks in advance, for any insight!

Failed Hard Drive

We have a Dell XPS One 2720 that was setup at our Rescue Squad and is out of warranty. No problem, I can replace the hard drive but non on created system discs or backups and my look at Dell.com for drivers will not allow me to download the drives ahead of time so I can install them when I install the new drive and install Windows 10. It appears I may be able to order the system discs from Dell that I think will have Windows 8 Pro and hopefully the drivers/programs that would bring the system back to where it was when new.

Is there a way to download just the drivers that won't try to auto install or expand when downloaded? I want them on a USB memory stick ready to install after loading Windows 10. Suggestions welcomed.

Thanks,

Steve

Dell Inspiron 660 Card Reader (Realtec 2.0) stopped working

I uninstalled the Card Reader and let Windows install the new driver. That didn't work, so I downloaded the latest driver direct from the Realtek site and tried to install it. That didn't work either so I looked at the Event Viewer and noticed: "Device not migrated". My OS is Win 10. See the screenshot below:

I pasted a screenshot, but it didn't publish. It read: Device Deleted, Device Install Requested, Device Not Migrated, Device Service Added (RTSUER), and Devise Installed (rtsuerext.inf)

I look forward to hearing from anyone who can give me some help on this.

Is it possible to remove the HDD cage in Inspiron 660?

I wish to install an intake fan to cool down my GPU, and the only option seems like to remove the HDD cage and relocate my HDD to the 5.25-inch spare DVD bay.

However, I am not sure if this is possible.

Replacement Harness for Precision T3500 PSU

I would like to replace my PSU's wiring harness with one from a Alienware Area 51 ALX.  I was told they may match.  I need the 2nd 6-pin PCIe connector.  The workstation's PSU only has one.

Inspiron 660s tower crashes and then 2 beeps repeating

$

0

NOTE: This is NOT a POST beep code. This is after the box has been running awhile (either in Windows 7 or most recently after booting from the Memtest86 CD). Possibly, after it crashes, it then tries to reboot and then the 2 beeps? (If so, then the 2 beeps are POST related)

I searched, but didn't find anything that seems to relate to beep codes after the box has been up and running for awhile, and then crashes and gives a beep code. In this case, the beep code is 2 beeps, a pause, 2 more beeps, etc.

Question: Am I correct, to believe that this is because of a RAM DIMM that has failed, or, a bad RAM slot on the motherboard, or do those beeps indicate something else?

I believe it is a HW problem, and that I've eliminated the hard disk drive causing the issue, because the first thing I tried to do was run Memtest86 and after that ran for approximately 15 or 20 minutes, after booting from the Memtest86 CD, it crashed and then the 2 beeps.

Thank you, in advance, for your time and help! Lanny
