Blank screen on boot up

Recently I have been having a problem with the monitor being black from the time I turn the computer. After about a half hour if I turn the monitor off and back on I will get the blue log in screen.  I have a Viewsonic VG2230wm monitor. The PC is a Dell Inspiron 545S Pentium Dual Core CPU E5300 4 GB RAM, 2.60 GHz 64 bit OS running Win 7 Home Premium.

I checked the driver for the monitor and it had Generic Non PnP Monitor for the driver dated 2006.  I was able to change it to the Viewsonic VG2230wm SERIES driver dated 2009.  Every time I shut the computer down and turn it back on the reverts back to the Generic Non PnP Monitor. I am not sure that is the problem.

When I look at the devices and printers (Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers) it is showing a laptop for my PC with a yellow triangle with and exclamation mark next to the laptop.  When I right click on the icon and troubleshoot the problem first I get  Reinstall device driver, then I get a message, Troubleshooting was unable to automatically fix all the issues found.  You can find more details below. Problem found, remote desktop generic USB device (redirected) has a driver Not fixed problem.

I have manually tried to update the computer driver, ACPIx64-based PC, but every time I update it says, Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date, ACPIx64-based PC. The incorrect icon of a laptop with the yellow triangle remains on the page with Devices and Printers.

I think that the PC thinks it is a laptop and doesn't send any signal to the monitor. I get nothing, not even the blue rectangle with "Analog" that I usually get when the monitor first goes on before it switches to the Win 7 boot up screens.
