Just bought an Optiplex 7010 mini-tower with Win 8 Pro 64-bit, 8GB RAM, 500 GB HD and Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.20GHz.
Noticed in Task Manager that the process/service IAStorDataSVC starts to eat memory and gets very big in RAM over time. A number of folks have commented that one solution may be to update its initial driver 11.5. The Intel website offers a number of higher driver versions, from 11.7 to 13.2.
However, to play it safe, I checked support.dell.com - drivers - and saw that - surprise - Dell offers an update to version 11.6 specifically to fix a memory leak problem. (Wow - that doesn't happen so often!)
So I followed the instructions on the Dell page to download and install, but at the end, the new driver folder does NOT show how to install.
At the end of the Dell instructions, Dell says:
5. After completing the file extraction, if the Self-Extractor window is still open, close it.
6. Click Start button and then click Run.
7. Type "C:\DELL\DRIVERS\X50R1" (where 'X50R1" isthe name of the file) in the Open textbox and then click OK.
8. Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
BUT THERE ARE NO ON-SCREEN INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS !!! (Dell - you always fail - there's something missing every time with you - you are so unfocused.)
The only thing that happens is that the folder C:\DELL\DRIVERS\X50R1 opens in Explorer.
Well, I right-clicked the TWO (!) different .inf files and manually selected "Install" and re-booted.
From what I can tell, the installation is only half there. Some of the related files now show driver 11.6, but others still show 11.5. And IAStorDataSVC is growing again in RAM use - like a monster movie.
So - HOW DO I DO THIS COMPLETELY AND CORRECTLY?
OR - MAYBE - should I just download a HIGHER version directly from Intel and install it the Intel way?
Thanks. (And when will Dell start paying me?)
