how to get to BIOS on new XPS 8700?
it's a brand new machine with Win 8.1, a SSD boot drive, etc.
I need to get into BIOS so that I can prepare for recovery with Acronis backup program. That program will generate a recovery disk or flash drive. If my boot drive won't boot, I'll use the recovery item, but I need to have the BIOS first try booting from that before the drive C.
Reading messages on the Acronis forum, I'm hearing for the fist time about UEFI- I barely understand what that is- but apparently, it's a replacement for BIOS?
Is it likely my new machine has UEFI rather than a BIOS? and how do I get to it? Do I press a function key as the system boots up? One person in the Acronis forum suggested to ask Win 8.1 to restart and hold the shift key while doing it.
I don't like experimenting on my PCs unless I'm certain it's the correct method. This is my 4th Dell- all previous versions came with a manual which would give me the answer to a question like this.
Maybe the "missing manual" is on the Dell web site?
