The XPS8700 I received from Dell did not have a Bluetooth function. After two sessions with Tech Support I(India) they sent out a tech to replace the wireless board 1704.That did not help. After another 3 hours of Tech Support in control of my PC, they decided it was a motherboard problem and they shipped out another XPS8700, with the same OS8.1 build (9600).
-The first XPS8700 also required a refresh OS installation for which Dell sent out a Flash Drive with Windows 8.1 on it. That fix was handled by the only competent tech at Tech support I had contact with. The others went around and around, repeating the same operations without success, before giving up.
All attempts with three different programs (Acronis 2015), Laplink PCmover, and Macrium Reflect, failed to transfer the content of XPS-1 to its replacement, XPS-2. The Laplink program, did transfer and labeled it a "Success", BUT the transfer was quite incomplete and therefore USELESS.
I got no help from Tech Support with this problem after that !!! After nosing around the system around looking at the folders and files, I noted that whole sections of the folders were missing. In C:\users\Name\ there should have been a folder named APPLICATION DATA and under it several, including \Roaming and \Local. plus others, which I did not note down.
The \Roaming turned out to critical for running several utilities I use daily as well as my E-mail client, Eudora 7109. They all worked on the first XPS-1, but failed to do so on the XPS-2 (replacement).
AppData\Roaming\Qualcomm\Eudora\......
My conclusion is that the original OS installation of Windows 8.1 was corrupted and incomplete.
Tech Support has abandoned me now, since I got somewhat testy after having to fool with PC problems for 60 days now. [Looks like Quality Control and competent support have gone the way of cost effectiveness at DELL.
