My 2 week old Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition w/256GB SSD, Windows 8.1, was running perfectly when it froze when I was not using it (it was not asleep). After turning off with the on/off switch, when it came back on it was not able to get into the initial Windows screen. Once, several days before, it also froze, but when I turned it off and then back on it worked perfectly. The computer unsuccessfully tried to automatic repair. I tried some of the advanced options menu such as Start-up Repair, and Start-Up Settings (it would not start in safe mode) without success. The options left appear to be “Refresh” or “Restore”, both of which, if successful, will cause all software I have loaded to be lost (mainly Office 365, Creative Cloud and Norton Security). I had all files already backed up before the problem occurred. Are there any other options available beside Refresh and Restore? I am concerned if I do Refresh or Restore, successfully, what will prevent this from happening again? I ran the ePSA Pre-Boot Assessment diagnostics and all hardware checked out okay. I had performed the Factory Backup and Applications and Drivers to USB drives as instructed on the Dell website, but had not created a Rescue Disk. Windows and other software all had most recent updates. Thanks for any suggestions.
