Our studio xps 8100, purchased in 2010, was working fine till a few months ago when the fan started reving up and cycling every few seconds. Took it to local computer shop, they tested it and couldn't find any problems. I eventually found a solution by disabling the Dell Data Vault settings. I am having a problem with the power on button not always operating. If the power has been turned off for a short time (a few minutes), when I press the power on button everything works. However, if the power has been off for a length of time (overnight), when I press the power on button nothing happens. If I then disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer, wait a few seconds and then plug it back in and press the power on button everything works. I have disconnected the power cord from the surge protector and plugged it into a live wall outlet with no luck. I have also replaced the power cord, again no luck. Any suggestions?
