Old (2007) Precision 390 running Windows 7 passes the POST, but hangs at booting the OS. I get a screen saying "Starting Windows" but it never gets past that to the MS flower. The screen then goes black and the fan speed ramps up nearly takeoff speed. I have run all of the diagnostics I can get to and everything seems to be correct. during POST I get a series of blinking (they go by fast) numerals, but I'm not sure just which ones are indicative of anything. Last year I upgraded the hard drive, added memory and upgraded from windows XP to Win 7 (64 bit). Everything has worked well for the past year until recently. I had success (once) in launching the Windows Repair Process, but now that no longer works. I'm thinking I have a corrupted OS. would trying to boot from the internal disk drive with the windows disk be a solution? If I can get it to boot that way would I then re-install windows from the disk?
Thanks for any advice or suggestions you are willing to offer.
