I have always noticed something with my DELL XPS 8100 Windows7 Home Premium.
The original system came with the Seagate ST31000528AS, whenever the system was rebuilt from the Reinstallation DVD, I had noticed that if the DELL drivers was not installed, the fan would be extremely noisy non-stop.
Recently, my hard drive went, I had purchased a Western Digital WS1003FZEX. Guess what, the Reinstallation DVD is unable to complete Windows on it, I guess the device was unsupported at that time. I got a copy of the Windows7 SP1 trial DVD, and was able to install Windows7 Home Premium using DELL License Key. The only problem, the fan noise is unbearable even though I had applied all the DELL drivers. Can anyone recommend how to fix this annoying fan? Do you know of any drivers that are required to address this? Unfortunately, DELL has no new drivers for my out of support Service Tag.
By the way, I tried the Windows 10 Technical Preview, the fan is very quiet. When Windows 10 is finally released, I heard that Windows7 users should be able to upgrade to Windows10 for free supposingly.
