I currently own two identical Dell 17" LCD Monitor 173Fpf. One is an extension of the other display (dual display setup). I have owned both of the monitors for just over two years and both have worked great for my personal dual monitor needs. On start up yesterday, my secondary monitor reverted to a 1024 x 768 resolution which is not the native display (1280 x 1024) that I am used to seeing/using. In fact, my primary monitor remains in the correct resolution while the secondary can now only be changed to 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 720 on the screen resolution page under the control panel.
What has seemingly randomly happened to my secondary monitor's display resolution? Any ideas on how to fix this problem? I have been and will continue reading other forms but the fixes and patches do not seem to be working. I have tried restarting, shutting down, unplugging power cord for 10 minutes, unplugging the VGA for 10 minutes, and updating my AMD Radeon 7400 Series Graphics Card.
If it helps, I will provide some information about the current hook up: The primary monitor is attached to my computer (Windows 8.1, 64 bit, 10 GB, Hp Envy with AMD 6120 Six-core processor) with VGA out to VGA in. The secondary monitor is attached to my computer with VGA (remember, both monitors are the same and both have VGA out but my computer only has 1 VGA in, 1 DVI in, and 1 HDMI in) out to a VGA-HDMI converter and, therefore, HDMI in.
[Primary Monitor] : VGA out -----------------> VGA in -- [Computer]
[Secondary Monitor] : VGA out -------------> VGA to HDMI converter ---------------> HDMI in [Computer]
The monitors and their resolutions used to be identical for all 2 years of ownership until yesterday when the secondary monitor changed itself. Quite strange really.
Any help/suggestions?
Thanks!
