Inspiron 660, stuck in power save mode, no warranty?

Is Dell really not going to replace a bad motherboard after just 18 months of ownership, even though the one-year warranty has expired?  This seems wrong. I'm a longtime Dell user but am getting frustrated. I bought this Dell Inspiron 660 in October 2013, partly because it had Windows 7 (so I wasn't forced into Windows 8).  It became stuck in power save mode. After trying my own trouble-shooting (hard boot, soft boot, new power cable, new video cable, etc), I took it to Best Buy hoping it needed only a new power source, but no joy...it's the mother board. I wonder how this happened, since I'm the sole user of this unit and it has never been moved. I see this is not an uncommon issue with the Dell Inspiron.
