Xps 8100 ahci port 0 error code

Hi,

I turned on the computer to an Ahci port 0 device error press ft to resume message. When I did that I reached the cmos setup utility. I left it alone and pressed for and when the computer started up again, I pressed for to try to boot into safe mode. But I kept getting the same message. I put the Dell utilities and drivers in to the computer and result is "fail" code 146. ( I did this with if gleaned from this forum.)Does this mean the hard drive died? If so, what are my options?

Do I need a whole new computer or just a new drive?
