Things that make you hummmm.

A couple months ago I was given a vostro 200 mini tower. I up graded to newest bios, bumped ram to 8 gigs, and added a graphics card. My only real issue was the stock E2140 and it's 1.6ghz so I read all I could on a good upgrade cpu. Seemed people were happy with an E8600 so I bought one and installed it last Thursday. That's when the first issue came up. I could not fit the heat sink /fan that came with the cpu. Seems that dell uses screws too small to allow the Intel assembly to work so I went back to the dell one. Fired it up and to say it is faster is an understatement. Everything was runny like it should. I had been using speccy to keep tabs on it. The cpu was running at 40c. I played around with it till time to head to bed. Next morning I woke it up and was working with it till the cursor started acting up. I went back to speccy and found that the cup is still running at 40c but the motherboard(775 socket) was overheated at 85c. Long story short after the computer not turning on I got another 200 mt. I swapped out all the upgrades from old to new computer but all it would do after the screen that showed the bios version was to only have the flashing cursor in the top left corner. The drone with the so on it seemed to be empty and the second larger one was not identified. It looks like either the power supply or motherboard were killed as well as both hard drives. I don't see how changing the cpu would cause all this damage. Please help me to figure it out as I don't want to fry this computer just yet.

Sorry for the long post I just wanted to get what happened so I can get some help figuring it out so when I get the new os I can be ready to use it.

Thanks

Kenny
