I am upgrading my N5050 from 500GB to 1TB. I used the Apricom SATA Wire 3.0 cable to connect the 1TB to the USB port and clone the 500 GB to 1TB using the SATA Wire software. The software used to perform the clone operation was the Apricom EZ Gig IV that came with the cable. When I look at the 1TB drive, I can see all of the partitions including the Dell Recovery partition so I'm assuming the clone process worked correctly. To test if the 1 TB drive works before taking the Dell apart, I would like to test the new 1TB drive as follows:
- Turn computer on and press F12 to get into the boot options.
- Change the boot options to set "boot from USB" as the number one priority.
- Turn computer off.
- Plug the USB drive into the USB 2.0 (not USB 3.0) port.
- Turn on the computer to see if it boots from the 1TB drive connected to the USB port.
Question: Should this work if the “clone” operation was successful or is there some reason why this will never work?
