Windows Task Scheduler

Anybody know how / why things suddenly get added to the Windows Task Schedule without my permission? Win 7 Pro+SP1, 32-bit.

I recently started getting hounded by Garmin Express Self Updater (esu.exe) asking for network access (trapped by ZoneAlarm firewall, and I deny access). I have Garmin software on this PC for a GPS, but I haven't run the software in at least 6 months and it's set notto check for updates automatically. I even have the Garmin device service disabled in services.msc.

It appears a new version of esu.exe got installed earlier this week without permission. It's v1.0.0.0. There's another copy of esu.exe in a different folder with a slightly different folder name. This one is  v2.0.0.0, installed in 2014.

After I exhausted everything I could think of, I looked in Windows Task Scheduler and there it was on the schedule, along with Adobe Reader Updater (also was set never to check for updates). So how are these things getting around my settings?

More worrying is how/why an OLDER version of esu.exe got installed without permission. Stealth malware hiding being Garmin's name??

Routine weekly Malwarebytes and SAS scans don't find anything... [^o)]
