XPS 8900 Freezes up with no logs generated

I purchased and installed an XPS 8900 with Win 7 Pro for a client one month ago.  Since day 1 the machine has been freezing repeatedly during normal operations.  The only logs generated are logs in event viewer stating "appcrash" or application hang.  No driver or hardware fault logs generated.  It's never the same app that crashes, always different.  Tried diagnostics, both pre-boot and windows, nothing shows up.  All drivers and MS packages are up to date.  

Also, had a USB issue with this machine where I couldn't get some of the ports to work in the front.  They just wouldn't respond to any input devices.  But as of today they appear to be working.  Machine is still hanging up randomly and will only shutdown if you press and hold the power button.  No response through Windows. 


Is this a common problem?  My client is getting frustrated and I see other people are having issues with the XPS 8900.  I have not started a case with dell as of yet because I know they will say "reinstall windows."  And obviously it's more than that.  The machine arrived brand new with issues already.
