I am trying to boot from the Blu-ray player, so that I can use a Norton Bootable Recovery Tool disc I created on a laptop with exactly the same OS as my desktop, Windows 8.1. When I boot up, I repeatedly press F2 but the PC will boot to Windows. I upgraded the System BIOS from A11 to A12, but I still can't get the computer to recognize F2.
My keyboard is a Corsair something or other, connected to the PC via a USB cable (not wireless). I've run the Dell SupportAssist program and all the hardware is working fine under Extended System Test. My antivirus/firewall program, Norton Security with Backup, has found a few malware, but not recently. The computer freezes and I get the error messages 'The file "SMTrayNotify.exe" seems to be corrupt!' y 'Runtime error 216 at 048383A6'. I believe SM is iolo System Mechanic. I was instructed to thoroughly uninstall it and to reinstall it by re-downloading it from the iolo site. I did but I still get the same message. I googled Runtime error 216 and Microsoft Support alleged that This issue can occur if your computer is infected with a SubSeven Trojan virus. I'm worried that the reason I can't get F2 to work is because of malware. But I may be doing something wrong.
