XPS 8900 - Installing everything to C drive rather than D drive

My XPS 8900 has a 225GB C drive labeled OS and a 1.8TB D drive labeled Data.  Unfortunately, everything is installing to the C drive.  I went into settings and selected that all new apps, documents, etc. should go to the D drive, but everything is still installing to C.  I tried re-booting, but still everything installs to C.  I have confirmed that D drive is still selected for all the storage save locations.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.  I know that on most programs I can manually select the drive, but some of the software (such as Office and Dropbox) don't allow me to select a different drive.

I tried contacting Dell support but they were useless.  They said I could receive support/help for a fee.  This is a brand new computer that just arrived and I can't believe they won't offer assistance.

I'm hoping someone can help this non-tech person figure out how to get programs to install to the larger drive.  Thanks
