I have been getting a "low on memory" message on my 64 bit Dell Inspiron 570, but otherwise all diagnostics on the computer check out fine. I had three 1GB memory sticks and replaced them with three 2GB memory sticks (certified new Dell sticks for the Inspiron!) Once I replaced them, the system stats say 6 GB of memory was installed, but that only 3 GB are usable--no more than originally. The Window Help page on this says that the BIOS often needs to be adjusted with new memory, so I took the computer to the local Geek Squad store. The Geek Squad guys verified that I had installed the memory correctly, but did not see a way that the BIOS could be changed for the system to recognize the expanded memory. After 2 hours of trying various stratagems, the Geek Squad team (three of them worked on it) gave up. Incidentally, I do have the latest BIOS driver and ran the Dell diagnostics on the memory system.
Any ideas?
