Trying to help my brother out with this issue as I have a little knowledge but not a ton. Here is the issue:
The unit powers on but the screen is not responsive and black/blank.
I hooked it up to an external monitor and got the mouse only on a black screen.
Started in safe mode with external monitor and that worked.
Ran diagnostics and got Error Code: 2000-0511 The (MXM Fan) fan failed to respond correctly.
5 beeps then one beep then one beep. Repeat.
No other errors found.
I thought it may be the video card but if it shows externally is it not? Nothing I know of happened to cause the screen to break.
I tried hooking in an external video source through hdmi and powering the unit on but no response. Is there a way to make this a monitor only without being able to see the main screen to test if that works?
Could the fan issue be related to the blank screen on the Inspirion 2320?
What steps could I use to isolate the problem?
