auto scan system updates. firm ware & chipset upgrades. How do I identify exsistance of and current versions??? Help

ok I have reformatted and installed my operating system.  I run the system scan from the dell web site to identify any driver updates that I may need.  I get a huge list of like 44 firmware and chipset updates. no driver updates. First on the urgent list is something about "Samsung F3 7200 3.5 SATA2 HDD Firmware Update"  -Well as far as I know I have a western digital hard drive..... -or- is this refuring to the possibility of a sata 'samsung' chip set on the motherboard?

Looking through the list there are a lot listed that I really don't think I have in my system....

  1. How do I know exactly what hardware I have?
  2. What the latest firm wares are?
  3. Same goes for chipset?

I Know this question has probly been asked over and over... (sorry)  It has been so long since I have been to the Dell forums I'm a new once again. I'm not sure how to narrow down the searching for posts and topics.

Current system, studio xps8100, I7, W7 x64

I did snatch up the intel update program..
-also, thanks for any help!

-Jaz
