Dell XPS 8500 switched HDs, no boot, steady yellow power light

I have been continually getting messages about my hard drive (1 T SATA) failing so I bit the bullet and went and bought a new drive (2 T SATA). I left the original drive in it's original configuration and installed my new drive as a secondary drive. I used Macrium Reflex to try and clone the old drive to the new. I kept getting 'failed to clone - pipe broken' messages after about 93% cloning. So I figured I would try to boot up using the new drive and switched hard drive connectors around after powering off. After trying to power back on, all I get is a steady yellow power light. The fans, optical drive etc are all running  but nothing else happens. So I powered off and switched the connections back to the original set-up. Same thing - only a yellow power light. I know that a steady yellow power light usually means some kind of component failure but I have to believe the power supply is OK as everything in the case is running. Any help?
